Sunny skies, temps in the 50's and snow just about gone. I'm really proud of, but not surprised by the way people in Texas have stepped up and helped each other through this storm. Been hearing many stories of people opening their homes, businesses and churches to those in need. Power and water employees have been working around the clock to return these necessities to everyone. Restaurants and food companies giving away food to those who needed it. A story about a convenience store that left bottled water sitting outside when they had to close. When the owners reopened, they saw that yes, the water had been taken, but money had been pushed through the mail slot to pay for it. I've not heard about or read of any instances of break-ins or looting. What I have heard is that some people in this country have been laughing about how dumb Texans weren't prepared for this and what crybabies we are. Well, it's hard to prepare power grids and water supplies for something that almost never happens, and some things have been mishandled. But, people here have shown that their hearts are prepared to do what's right, for no other reason than because it's the right thing to do. Good folks and everyday heroes that you won't hear much about on the mainstream media. But that's ok. We know.

I love this! Texas is showing so much of the country how to act. Pulling together and being honest sure beats riots and looting. And you're right, you would never have anticipated this, so people can stop mocking too!
ReplyDeleteAmen!! This was once in a generation event! Aren't you tired of living through these 'historical' events?? I know I am!
ReplyDeleteJan, Some people are plain mean or do not think about what they say, might hurt others. I do hope those up in the big offices of government re-work some things ....just in case a once in a life time event happens again....the world is changing, we need to think ahead . Hope you are safe and getting back to normal lifestyle. Blessings to you and yours. xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteI lived in Texas a long time. The heart of Texas is very strong. There are those who enjoy belittling others and acting petty, who look for that "gotcha" moment and then there are Texans! A lot of true-hearted people there.
ReplyDeleteI do admire Texans for all they are doing to try to help during this event. However, it isn't once in a lifetime. A similar crisis with the grid happened in 2011 and luckily Mexico stepped up and let them use their grid so a catastrophe like this didn't happen. Hopefully this will spur the state government to make some better choices, like maybe joining the other 49 states on the national grid - like the City of El Paso did after 2011.
ReplyDeleteI agree, as bad it was, Texans stepped up to the plate and helped others.
ReplyDeleteHard to believe last week we had negative temps and this week we will see seventies! That's Texas for ya!
ReplyDeleteJan, this is so heartening to read. My husband will always be a Texan even though it's been a long time since he lived there, and we watched the news in sorrow and prayers. Each person's personal story brought home just what a huge job is ahead for them. But we also rejoiced every time we'd see stories of Texans taking care of their neighbors. Best to everyone there!
ReplyDeleteWonderful stories, and so thankful that God has seen you through these storms. Praying for those who may be still affected by the results of it. That was really a freaky kind of storm to happen to Texas. So glad you are okay!!
