Whirlwinds
Life gets overwhelming sometimes when our loved ones are having problems. We had to stay at our daughter's house yesterday and keep two of her children while she and her husband got emotional help for our other grandchild. We got very little sleep and we are physically and emotionally exhausted. Today, it did me a world of good to sit in the sun for a while and just listen to the quiet and pray. As I sat, I watched a whirlwind come up from nowhere and fly across the yard and pasture, taking every bit of dust and dead leaf in it's path and flinging them high into the air. It was quite loud for such a small whirlwind. The center was a dense jumble of dirt, leaves and bits of paper. Just as it calmed down, it would start up again. It traveled all over catching everything around it up. Eventually, though it quieted and disappeared. The leaves had mounted high into the air during the little storm and after it finally calmed, they fell softly and peacefully back to the earth. This, I thought, is how the storms of our life are. At the time, our life is in chaos and everything seems to be flung at us from all directions. We can't see where we are going and we feel like we're being swept along without any control. But eventually, the storm does end and we see where we need to go and hopefully we learn the lessons that the storm can teach us. "The winds and the waves obey His will..." He gives us peace in the storm and when the time is right, He calms the storm.

Snow Day!
We have a couple of inches of snow this morning on top of the freezing rain that fell last night. It's very pretty-especially from inside the house! My daughter sent me these pictures of the grands enjoying the snow day with their dog Piper. (Yes, only teenaged girls are silly enough to run outside and play in the snow in shorts! She didn't last long!)

Life is Quiet
Not a lot going on right now, getting out in the mornings while it's relatively cool-as in mid to upper 80's instead of 100's)-...

That's how I always feel on September 1st. Maybe it comes from living most of my life in places where summers could be pretty brutal. (...
