Happy Valentine's Day

This and That

Cold and wet today-not quite cold enough to snow. Just dark and windy and rainy. A good day to stay in with a pot of soup cooking for supper and that's just what we're doing today. I had great plans for cleaning today and did manage to give the kitchen a lick and a promise, (now there's an old saying you don't hear anymore!) and get a load of laundry done, but the upstairs bathroom will still be there tomorrow so I'll put it off yet another day!

We spent last week in southern New Mexico visiting my mom-in-law and brothers and sisters-in-law. We hadn't been to visit in quite a few months since it's a 10 hour drive, although the hubs does call her every night. We don't get a real accurate picture of how she's doing that way, though. She hears fairly well over the phone, in person she is pretty hard of hearing. She has also become pretty much wheelchair bound since we saw her last. She still lives by herself in a senior's apartment, but it looks like that may be coming to an end as she can't really see much anymore and really has difficulty moving from her wheelchair. My brothers and sisters in law are so good to take care of her, but it's getting difficult for them. Discussions were had about the next steps, but it's really up to her and them since we don't live there. We're so grateful for all that they do and I know we don't tell them often enough. We hope to get back next month with our son and daughter and the older grands. With all of the sickness and bad weather, our daughter in law will probably stay home with little Miss Rosie.

Our wind is really whipping up this afternoon and the thunder is booming. Looks like another bout of rain coming in. Guess I'll see how that pot of soup is coming along-it may need a pan of cornbread to go with it! I also have some cross stitch calling my name!
