Not a Lot...

 ...going on here. I can see pretty well with my left eye now. I went back to the ophthalmologist last Monday and he said everything looked good. He reinforced the area with a little more lasering and I don't have to go back for a month. 

We discovered we had a hot water leak under our (concrete slab) foundation in the dining room last week. The floor was warm, which is never a good sign unless you have under the floor heating-which we don't. Fortunately my husband was able to find the leak because the carpet in the bedroom closet on the other side of the dining room wall was wet. Instead of calling in a plumber to jackhammer out the new floor and foundation, he was able to open the wall in the closet and cap off the leaking pipe and re-route it through the ceiling to the bathroom which was supplied by the leaking pipe. I don't really understand it all, but we have hot water, a cold floor and no leaks, so that's all I need to know! As a chemical engineer, he's always called himself a glorified plumber and he's right!

We have grandkids coming to visit this weekend so that will be fun. We have had a ton of rain recently and cool temperatures which have been really nice. It has made so many beautiful wild flowers come out. It's also made allergies a lot worse, but I guess we've gotta take the good with the bad. It's been making for a long, lovely spring!

Eclipse Day!

 We will be able to watch the eclipse from our front yard as we are in the line of totality. I will probably be using something like a colander or pinhole viewer as I'm not about to risk my eyes after last week! I don't know if we will be able to snag a last minute pair of the eclipse glasses or not, but it will be amazing just to see it get dark in the middle of the day. The last eclipse we could see here was a partial one and the light through the tree leaves cast amazing looking shadows of "crescent suns" on the ground. Our trees are leafed out pretty well now, so that may be an option too. Enjoy one of God's most amazing shows if you're in an area where you can, or watch it online!

No Foolin'!

 Well, April Fools Day was a little more exciting than I had planned. We kept our 2 and 4 year old grands Thursday and Friday. Saturday, our son came out with the two older boys and we had all of the grands here for Easter. It was great, except that Friday night, I had some bright flashes and really large black floaters suddenly come down in the vision in my left eye. I have had the floaters happen before, so I thought I'd wait and see how it did. Saturday, the vision was very hazy in my left eye, so I started taking it easy and spent most of the rest of the weekend sitting down and being quiet. Except when I had to get up and sing Sunday at church. Monday, I called my ophthalmologist early and told them about my symptoms, and they told me to come right in. Turns out I have a torn retina that caused a vitreous hemorrhage. No idea how it happened-no fall or blows to the head and no pain-it just happened. Fortunately this office is extremely professional and up to date. They did a laser procedure right there in the office. I have to take things easy for the next two weeks to give the lasered area time to heal and create the scars that actually seal the tear. Then I'll go back and they'll decide if they need to do more lasering. (The retina itself cannot regenerate or heal, so the tear has to be sealed by laser.) I'm so grateful to have such good doctors close by who got me right in. The procedure itself was not really painful, just uncomfortable and very, very bright. The hazy part is already starting to resorb, so my sight is somewhat better in that eye. It will take the large floaters several weeks to settle down to the bottom of my eye where I won't see them anymore.
