Our winters are nowhere near as bad as they are up north, no snow or ice, but we have had our share of cold, gray, windy days. We spent Friday and Saturday on Lake Travis near Austin with our DIL's family and her sister's in-laws. All good people and we had a lot of fun playing games, eating and laughing. I think it's wonderful that in-laws can get together and feel like we are all family-I know it isn't that way in everyone's life and we're grateful! We came home yesterday and picked up our local grands for a sleepover. They don't have school today, but both of their parents have to work, so we kept them last night. Ate popcorn and watched a movie and slept in this morning. Then to Mickey D's for a late breakfast. Pop (my husband) has taken the two younger ones to the park. I don't know how long they'll stay-the wind is blowing and it's cloudy. The oldest and Mimi (me) opted to stay home and stay warm! Hope your long weekend has been a good one!

Blah
The January blahs have hit. Although we haven't had a lot of rain or frost, the days have been gray and windy. Had some routine lab work done and the holidays really did a number on my blood glucose and weight. Guess it's back on the wagon for me-it will be good for both of us to eat better as well as getting a little exercise. Now if only I could work up a little more enthusiasm for doing it!

Back to Home Sweet Home
We made a trip to New Mexico to visit my MIL this past week. She is 91 and still lives on her own. We try to make it out there a couple of times a year and this time we took our daughter and her three children. It's a 12-13 hour drive, but we made it there Wednesday and back home today without any huge problems. (In her new SUV! It makes a long trip a lot easier.) Some normal squabbling among the small fry and just a really long day on the road both ways. The kids don't start school until Tuesday, but their parents have to work tomorrow, so we kept them here at our house tonight while their mom went on to their home. Everyone seems to have settled down quickly-we're all pretty tired.
It was a good visit but I don't think his mother will be able to live on her own much longer-she's getting very frail and has fallen a number of times. She really wants to stay in her own place. My SIL is there to take care of her almost everyday and my husband's brother and wife are there often too. I know it's getting to be a strain for all them. We really appreciate all that they do since we don't live close. They are all wonderful people and I'm as close to them as I am to my own family. (Not much of my family left really, just a brother and an aunt and her family.)
Well, it's good to be back home and I'm ready to get going on the new year. Guess I'll start taking down Christmas this week and start thinking about what I'd like to accomplish this year. Our upstairs really needs a good weeding out and the trim and baseboards need painting too. I'm sure I'll find plenty for us to do! Hope your holidays were good days and the new year will be a good one for you!

Life is Quiet
Not a lot going on right now, getting out in the mornings while it's relatively cool-as in mid to upper 80's instead of 100's)-...

That's how I always feel on September 1st. Maybe it comes from living most of my life in places where summers could be pretty brutal. (...
