Last of January at Last

Well, we've finally gotten to the end of the longest month of the year. Had some good things happen, but are ending the month with a bang-or at least a wheeze. Yes, we have been visited once again with the you-know-what and find ourselves coughing and snorting into February. Actually, we are just about over it now. Thankfully it has been very mild and we are at the tail end of it, so we can get out and do things.

We have a winter storm coming in Wednesday-nothing like what they are seeing back east, but it will be a nasty few days of ice and snow for us. Well, this is Texas, so guess I'd better head to the store before all the bread, milk and toilet paper are gone! 😉

6th week of January...

...or so it always seems. January always feels like it has more weeks than any other month! Not a lot going on right now, but we did have little Miss R for a few days last week. She just turned two and is our youngest granddaughter.

I want to savor every moment with her that I can while she is little. Our two oldest grandgirls are teens now and are having such a hard time navigating those turbulent teenaged waters. The world is not the place it was when I was their age, or even when their mom was a teen-it can be a hateful and ugly place sometimes and school seems to be a hotbed of it. My heart breaks for them and I would appreciate your prayers for them as they make their way through a difficult season of anxiety and depression in their lives.

On better news, though, Miss R's biggest brother CH and his steer Big Red took Grand Champion at their county Jr. Livestock show this past weekend. The weekend before that, they got 6th place at a big show in Oklahoma. We are so proud of him and the skills he is acquiring and responsibility he is taking. He is in 4H, which is a wonderful organization that teaches old fashioned values and leadership skills. We are so appreciative of his Lollie (my daughter-in-law's mom) and his Uncle T for undertaking this with him, and for his mom giving him and his siblings a good home school education. He is following in his mom and her sibling's footsteps. They are good country people who are instilling good values and ideals in him!

For the New Year

Although I often post something funny and joke on this blog, things in life sometimes become  overwhelming for me, particularly during the short, dark days of winter.  I get down about the way the world is going. I'm saddened that the years have passed by so quickly. I worry about and want to fix all of the things my family and loved ones are going through. I feel pulled in too many different directions. Eventually, I reach a "hit the wall" place and feel completely emptied out-I just can't deal with one.more.thing.

Stepping back and putting my focus on the basics helps restore me to a place of peace and thankfulness. Praying, spending time with God's Word, enjoying the small, day to day things around me and spending time enjoying my home helps put things back in perspective. Then, I can truly see how very blessed I am.

October!
