My herbs haven't done quite so well, I don't think my Greek Oregano is going to make it, but my Basil is taking over! Rosemary and Dill are growing big. Here are a few pictures-they aren't very good and I'm sure they will mostly show that we have no idea what we're doing! We will do raised beds next year. When we lived in a much drier climate, we planted directly in the ground so that's what we did this year, but we're realizing that there's too competition with grass and weeds here.

Live and Learn
It's definitely summertime here. The temperatures have been a few degrees lower than usual, but with all of the flooding, the humidity has been miserable. Early morning isn't too bad-a good time to head out to the vegetable garden. Yes, we actually have one this year-I call it our experimental garden, because I think we're learning all of the things we will do differently next year! We do have a lot of yellow crookneck squash coming on-I fried some for supper tonight and it was so good! It reminded me of summer at my Mamaw's house. Our black-eyed peas and okra are beginning to make, so some good veggies in our future! Our beans have a lot of blooms as do our canteloupe and pumpkins, but nothing else yet. We have some Blue Hubbard squash, though. They make better pumpkin pies than pumpkins! We also have some sweet potato vines.

After Bill
Just a quick post to say that we got over 7 inches of rain from the storm. All of our rivers and creeks are above flood stage, but gradually going down. The little creek that runs through our town was a raging river for a while. We live up on a ridge (Lucky Ridge!) and haven't had any flooding, but our neighbor's pasture downhill from us was flooded for a while when his pond took over the pasture.
We go to see grandkids tomorrow and help out with a splash pad party for our middle granddaughter.
Have a great weekend!

Here Comes Bill!
Tropical Storm Bill, that is-although he'll be a Tropical Depression by the time he gets here tomorrow.
Looks like tommorow will be a good day to stay home! The water from our last flood has only now subsided-guess it will be to do all over again as 3-5 inches of rain are predicted. Guess we will "batten down the hatches".
We've had our younger 2 year old grandson with us this week-we'll be taking him back this afternoon. It has been a joy and he had so much fun with his cousins. He adores our oldest granddaughter Alissa!
We also might have had some ice cream several times and generally spoiled him-that's what Mimi's and Pop's are for!

Time Goes By...
Hard to believe this sweet little boy is 32 years old today. Where has the time gone? He's now a proud dad of his own 2 boys. Happy Birthday to my wonderful son, David.

Our Newest Little Graduate
Yesterday, we got up early and drove to our youngest granddaughter's school for her Kindergarten graduation. We are so proud of her-she has really blossomed this year!

Life is Quiet
Not a lot going on right now, getting out in the mornings while it's relatively cool-as in mid to upper 80's instead of 100's)-...

That's how I always feel on September 1st. Maybe it comes from living most of my life in places where summers could be pretty brutal. (...
