Catching Up

We've been busy the last 10 days. Our daughter and son-in-law took a much needed trip together (Las Vegas, Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam) and we kept the grandkids for 5 days. While we had them, we took a trip to Tyler, TX to a surprise birthday party for one of my husband's cousins. It was good to see so much of his family, but it sure was hot and humid! The kids and the hubby had a great time in the pool at the hotel while we were there. (I sat in the shade and watched. I'm not a pool person!)

Their parents came home today and we are back home and tired!  It was fun, but as they say-it's good to keep grands and good to give them back too. (After a thorough spoiling of course!)

Flag Day

A somewhat forgotten holiday, but an important one!

Today was a sad day for my local grands.  Recently we took them and their mom to visit our son and his family. While we were there, the girls found a tiny black kitten at our DIL's parents farm and begged to take it home. He had been abandoned by his mother. He looked to be about 4 or 5 weeks old. They named him Pepper and he did well the first night, but was very ill by the next day. My daughter took him to the vet, but was told that he likely had a virus brewing before they got him and not to have too much hope. She got some medicine and kitten formula and tried to nurse him through the illness, but he became too weak and didn't make it.  He was a sweet kitty and they are heartbroken. It's hard to watch your grandchildren learn these life lessons, but they are resilient and there will probably be another kitty in the not too distant future. I think they will probably choose an older kitten from a rescue next time. RIP little Pepper.

P.S. Even with all of this going on and our SIL on travel to India, our daughter is continuing to improve everyday and is doing very well. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers!

June!

Yesterday was the last day of school in our local grandkids school district. Our granddaughters will be entering their last year at middle school and elementary school this fall and their brother will enter 2nd grade. I'm going to brag on them just a little! Our 13 year old granddaughter received the 7th grade student of the year for Theater award, and our 10 year old granddaughter received an award for making the A honor roll for the entire school year. Our 6 year old grandson made the A honor roll for the 6 weeks and received the "GRIT" award for his class. (Gives 100%, Really shows a great effort, Is hardworking, Tries their best). This has been a challenging year for him as he was diagnosed with ADHD back in the fall and went through several trials of medications and dosages before finding one that works well for him with minimum side effects. He definitely is one kid who is determined and never gives up! Love watching them grow up, but of course it's a little bittersweet watching the years go by so quickly. We're looking forward to bringing them home with us after church tomorrow for a sleep over. Besides giving their mom a break, we just enjoy having them over. Movies, Pop's toffee popcorn and sleeping late will probably be involved!
