Just Sayin'...

I won't be staying up until midnight tonight, so Happy New Year everyone! (and 2022 had better behave itself!) 😉

Christmas 1 & 2

We have been very blessed this Christmas season with lots of family time.

On Christmas Eve, we had a beautiful candlelight service at church where we sang old carols, new songs and "Bless Us All" from the Muppet Christmas Carol. Our music minister arranged it for our praise team and wrote parts for several of the older children. It was unusual and so sweet!

We had a wonderful Christmas Day at our daughter's house with both of our kids and most of the grands. Our daughter in law had to work, so the two littlest stayed with her Mom. We opened presents, ate too much and "put the world to rights" as it were. (If they would only let us run the world-bwahahahahaha!)

Now we're in New Mexico for a second Christmas with my husband's mom, our sister in law, her daughters and their families. Mom is 94 so we all wanted to meet here and get to spend some time with her. Our son and his boys are also here and we brought our oldest grandson. Between all of these families, we had 7 little boy cousins running around having a blast! Our "3 Musketeers" and their cousins had never all met before, so we've been eager to get them all together. We will have tomorrow to visit too, before we go our separate ways.

First Day of Winter in Texas

...yep. Just about right. Hard freeze a few days ago, 84 on Christmas. That little La Nina girl needs to get her act together. Just sayin'...

Boomer

The phrase "ok, boomer" is a term of derision you hear these days. Usually said to someone my age who has had the audacity to disagree with someone younger. It's an easy way to try to shut someone down that you don't want to listen to. Well, I'm proud to be a (baby) "boomer". It means my parents were part of the Greatest Generation. A generation who had to grow up too fast in a hard world of economic depression, extreme drought and world war. They knew no other way to live except to keep going and do their best to get through because it was simply, "what you did".
Today is the 80th anniversary of one of the great defining days in their lives. How many baby boomers were never born because those who would have been their fathers were killed 80 years ago today and in the war that followed? And how many boomers are here because those who made it through came home and picked up their lives and kept going, in spite of all they went through, burying experiences down deep because they were too horrific to tell us about.
They weren't perfect-no one is. But there is no generation living today-including mine-who can hold a candle to them. To say they were tough is an understatement in the extreme.
They didn't want us to have to go through the hard things they did and maybe they made life easier for us than they should have, because they loved us and wanted better for us than they had.
Only now in the autumn of my life do I truly begin to understand what a blessing and privilege it has been to be raised by the Greatest Generation. We will not see their like again.
