The Morning After

We had a wonderful Christmas-it could only have been better if our DIL could have been here. She's a labor and delivery nurse and had to work the holidays this year. We had our son and our 2 youngest grandsons here as well as our daughter and SIL and their 3. Lots of toys, noise and good food.  Husband and I sang at our church's Candlelight Christmas Eve service and it was very special to have our son and boys there. (I'm listening to our 5 year old humming "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" as he's busy playing-so sweet! The 4 year old serenaded us with "Jingle Bells" earlier this morning-big finish and everything! We do love our music in this family!)

Today is dark, windy and rainy, and we are vegging out, enjoying the quiet of "the day after". We may get out later and have something besides leftovers for lunch, but it's nice to sit and enjoy a mug of tea. Hope your Christmas was a good one and that your "Day After" is a good one too!

Winter

Sunny and 60 F today, but they say we'll have winter next week. I'll enjoy this beautiful autumn/winter weather for as long as it lasts!

Size Doesn't Matter!

At least, I hope not, because this is as big as it's getting! After my piano took up my Christmas tree corner, I decided to just use the top of our 9 foot tree and put it on the old sewing machine cabinet. It was so easy, I may never put the big tree up again!

Sick and Tired...

of being sick and tired. We are on the mend from this upper respiratory thing that's going around, but it's slow going. Christmassy things are showing up, however, so there's hope! I do have a tree up-a little one, but it's up and lit, there's a wreath on the door and the nativity set is out. Off like a herd of turtles to my recliner and Amazon prime for a little Christmas shopping!

December 7, 1941

Each generation has it's own landmark day. For my grandparents, it was probably President Wilson's declaration of war against Germany in 1917 after the sinking of the Lusitania and the Housatonic. For us, it was the assassination of JFK, and for our kids, it's probably 9-11. But for my parents and all of the greatest generation, it was December 7th, 1941-the day Pearl Harbor was attacked and much of our Navy destroyed. My mom told me about sitting in class in high school and listening to the president ask for a declaration of war on the radio the next day. My dad had already joined the Army Air Corps and remembered his commanding officer calling them together to tell them they would now officially be in harm's way. Their world changed forever that day. I don't know how many more generations will really think of this day as anything remarkable. The greatest generation is almost gone and their kids are getting old. This day doesn't hold first hand significance for me, but I know what it meant to my parents. It's for them and all who lost their lives as a result of it that I will continue to remember.

Life is Quiet

Not a lot going on right now, getting out in the mornings while it's relatively cool-as in mid to upper 80's instead of 100's)-...
