Happy New Year!

Last of 2017

It's been a pretty good year for us. We all got a little older, the grandkids got bigger and we're still scratching our head wondering how it could already be New Year's Eve again.

My mother-in-law turned 90 this year and is still living alone, although that may not last much longer. She began having bleeding problems because of her blood thinner (she has a-fib and a leaky heart valve). She spent a week in the hospital earlier this month receiving blood and undergoing tests. My husband has called her every night since his dad passed away in 2011, and she still sounds good. His brother and sister are taking care of her. She still goes out every Thursday to play cards with her 95 year old sister. They are the only two left of their family now.

The weather has turned icy and cold here and we haven't seen the sun for almost a week. Thought we'd get out to church this morning, but when we got to the highway, it was solid ice. Saw where someone had slid off the road and into the neighbor's fence so we turned around and went (carefully) home! Glad we went to the store yesterday and stocked up, it's not supposed to thaw any until Wednesday. Guess I'll take the tree down tomorrow. Seems like Christmas went by so fast, I'm not ready to put it all away yet!

Wishing you all a very Happy New Year with God's richest blessings!

2nd day of Christmas

We had a wonderful Christmas Eve and Christmas and didn't think to take any pictures! We had a beautiful candlelight carol service on Christmas Eve and then hurried home to finish the last of the wrapping and cooking.

We slept late and then gathered everything up and went to our daughter's for Christmas Day. Our son-in-law cooked a luscious rib roast. (The one picture we did get.) My husband made Posole-a traditional New Mexican Christmas stew with pork, hominy and red chile. We also had tamales which are another traditional Christmastime treat. It was an eclectic feast, but a delicious one!
The grandkids loved their presents and we all spent a very happy day together.

Today is dark, grey, wet and very cold-somehow rather fitting for the "day after". We are staying home and enjoying delicious left overs! Hope your Christmas was everything you wanted it to be!

Growing Up Too Fast!

Nine years ago today, Santa came early and left us a sweet bundle in a red stocking! We celebrated our youngest granddaughter's 9th birthday this afternoon with dinner out, cake and presents. She is a sweet girl and we love her so much! Happy Birthday, Miss A!!

9 years ago today.
It's hard to get a good picture of the birthday girl, she does NOT like to have her picture made!
She is on the right and her older sister is on the left.

Friday Fun

The Christmas tree is finally up and the lights on-ready for our three oldest grands to come and decorate it tonight. Our son-in-law's company Christmas party is tonight, so we are going to go pick the kids up and take them to dinner. Then back here to decorate the tree, watch holiday shows on TV and have a sleepover. I've gotten quite a bit of decorating done today, too. My new Christmas theme is "less is more". Probably using less than half of what I have and very happy with that! Hope to post some pictures later.

Life is Quiet

Not a lot going on right now, getting out in the mornings while it's relatively cool-as in mid to upper 80's instead of 100's)-...
