Thank you all so much for your comments. They mean a great deal to me.
We cried and laughed and hugged each other and had dinner together Wednesday and at last, left for our homes feeling closer than ever. It was a hard day, but in many ways, it was a good day too.

Saying Goodbye
Tomorrow we will say our final goodbyes to a dear friend, the first loss in our circle of friends.
We have been a close-knit group for many years, celebrating our joys together and comforting each other in our sorrows. Now one of us is gone and the reality that we are getting older brings us up sharply. Most of our parents are gone, our children are grown, and between us all we have quite a few grands and even some great-grands. It's hard not to feel that we are somehow at the beginning of the end-far earlier than we would have ever thought possible. Still, we will hold each other close and though we will never be the same, we will be together.
Love you Deb-you will be greatly missed.

Little Pumpkin
Got this picture today of our youngest grand! He's a sweet little pumpkin!
The weather is gorgeous here today. After two days of much needed rain, the clouds have lifted a bit and it's cool and crisp outside. We drove into town this morning and the leaves are really starting to change color. Even our oaks are sporting a few pretty leaves today, though it will be a couple of weeks before they really change. There's a lot of Prairie Flameleaf Sumac here and it is aptly named!
They produce a dark red berry that's supposed to edible, but I've never tasted any. They are pretty, though.
Guess I'd better close and start thinking about getting dinner fixed. Meatloaf, baked potatoes and green beans I think!

Sigh...
I try to stay away from politics on this blog, but there are times when I'm flat embarrassed for our government.
A better post tommorow, I promise!

Life is Quiet
Not a lot going on right now, getting out in the mornings while it's relatively cool-as in mid to upper 80's instead of 100's)-...

That's how I always feel on September 1st. Maybe it comes from living most of my life in places where summers could be pretty brutal. (...
