Welcome to my new follower Cozy Times! I appreciate all my followers so much!

I have a few quilts that were handed down to me by my mother-some in remarkably good condition for their age and some that are basically falling apart. They mean a great deal to me as they are not only a connection to my mother and grandmothers, but also to a great, great aunt that I never met.  I'm not a quilter, though that is one of my goals for the future, so I have a few questions for those of you who are. You make such beautiful quilts-I love looking through all your blogs at the pictures of them. 

This quilt was made by my grandmother (my Dad's mom), I'm not sure how long ago, but I think it was made for my parents when they married in 1946, so it's at least that old. It's very worn in places. Is there a particular name for this pattern?

Is there a way to repair the places that are worn? I know I couldn't use new fabric. I've always liked the big six-point stars and the bright colors in the triangles.

This quilt is called Desert Primrose and was made by my Mother's great aunt who left it to her. This particular aunt was precious to my mother. My mom was born at home in 1925 and was at least 2 months premature. When she was born she was so tiny, that they laid her aside assuming that she was dead, and tended to my grandmother who nearly did die. This great aunt of my mother's picked her up, saw she was breathing, wrapped her warmly and rocked her by the fire, saving her life.

This quilt is in amazingly good condition and the colors are still so bright. I know it's at least 100 years old, possibly older. I love the bright colors in this one and would like to mount it on a wall in one of our bedrooms. I know this would mean making a pocket across the top back to insert a wooden slat through to hang it. Would that likely damage the quilt? Here's a close-up of one of the flowers:

There are so many tiny stitches and all done by hand. When I was little, the yellow centers of the flowers and the dark knots reminded me of slices of banana!

I would love to hear what you think about these-I have a pretty little Dutch girl quilt that my grandmother (Mom's mother) made for my mom when she was little. It's at my daughter's house so I'll take a picture of it next time I'm there. It's definitely a favorite!

A hard week

Adjusting to the Wet Country

(Sorry about this tiny print-I don't seem to be able to change it.) A nice Wednesday at home-we don't keep the grands until 4:30 today. I'm so proud of my daughter for working so hard to finish her degree. She is a busy lady with school and 3 little ones. I'm glad we are close enough to help her out a few times a week.  I've been fighting a cold-allergy thing for the last few days, so I've laid low this morning and had lots of hot tea-did get the kitchen cleaned up and baked a carrot cake-the old sweet tooth is still in great form!

The cold, wet weather they've been threatening us with blew in early this morning. Yesterday's high was 78 F, today it is 39 F. Winter's getting one last shot in, I guess. The rain lasted all morning and just now let up. It's been wonderful to have so much rain. We moved from a very drought-stricken area, and it is so lush here in comparison. The bluebonnets and paintbrushes are blooming now-not any on our land as I had hoped, but plenty lining the roadsides.  I'm considering planting some next year.

My daughter just sent this photo of the baby-7 months old and pulling up. Nothing is safe now! Can't wait to grab him this afternoon and get some kisses and cuddles in!

Welcome to my two new followers and thank you!

It's hard to believe that it's already April-we've been living in North Texas for 8 months now, and 4 months in this house! I'm enjoying the beautiful soft morning after a night of rain, although it's chilly. Things are really beginning to green up.

I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend. We had 3 of our 4 grands here for Easter dinner and an Easter egg hunt.
