Checking In

Still triple digit temperatures and no rain in sight. Sigh.

Amazing that July is almost over. It's been a busy month keeping grandkids big and little, and grandpuppies too. Now that everyone is back from their vacations and getting ready for school to start soon, we are able to get back to work on the house. Earlier this year, we took in part of our back porch and made a "mud room" and a bathroom just off the kitchen and dining area. Before, the back door opened directly into the dining area. This gives us a better back entrance with quite a bit more room, and also gives us a much needed second bathroom downstairs. After the bathroom is finished, we will start taking up all of the ceramic tile in the kitchen and laundry room and the wood laminate in the living room and hallway in preparation for new flooring. We've chosen a beautiful dark wood-look porcelain tile. We will also paint the downstairs before the new floor goes in. It's a lot, but it will be beautiful when it's finished. We'd like to have it finished by the end of the year, but we'll see.

Stay cool, everyone!

  2. I can't believe it's almost August. Summer goes by too quickly!
Your renovations sound wonderful, but lots of work! You'll have to share pictures when you're done.

  3. We have been working on that additional bathroom project for a while - we are slowly working through the steps to get there. We did have small victories this summer. The plumbing and electrical and venting whatevers in the new utility room are done and the washer and dryer are moved in (both in the same room, it was fun when the dryer moved first). The new large door on the existing bathroom is installed so if we need walkers or wheelchairs, we won't scrap our knuckles. Now the wall in the old utility room needs to come down so the new walk in shower can go in. THEN the old utility room can become the new second bathroom. Unfortunately my contractor is my retired plumber husband and we work on his schedule.

  5. I have always wanted a mud room! I think I would use it as a laundry room as well. don't forget to take before and after photos. It will be really nice to not have the outer door open directly into the dining room. A Medical Coder is a profession I have never heard of! I hope you are able to stay cool!
