Is There A Doctor In The House?
Yes, there sure is!! Yesterday, our daughter in love, Caitie, received her Doctor of Medicine degree and we could not be happier or prouder! She has worked so hard, first getting her BSRN degree and then working as a Labor and Delivery nurse while being pregnant and giving birth to two babies herself. Then deciding to start medical school while being a wonderful wife to our son and an amazing mom to two grade schoolers, a toddler and a new baby. She now moves on to a 3 year residency in Emergency Medicine with the teaching hospital at her Medical School. This is wonderful because they won't have to move. Often residency means having to move clear across the country, since you basically go wherever you are accepted.
The commencement ceremony was yesterday and she and our son had a graduation party Sunday afternoon. It was a busy weekend, and I know they are ready to stop and catch their breath for a bit. She doesn't start her new job until July. We drove back home today and are ready to put our feet up for a while too!
Congratulations, Dr. Caitie!!

I'm probably the last person that didn't know about this app, but I just found Merlin, Cornell University's app for identifying birds and bird calls.
We live out in the country and have many, many large oak trees on our property. The bird song out here is beautiful and I'm always curious about which birds I'm hearing. Once the trees are completely leafed out as they are now, I can hear more birds than I can actually see. This app can listen to and identify birds by their calls. Even with the traffic noise on the Farm to Market road that runs in front of our neighbor's properties, it can hear and identify "who's out there". Just on a short walk this morning, it found 5 or 6 different birds, none of which I could actually see, but could hear. You can also take a picture of a bird and it will identify it. I almost feel like I have a new toy! I've never known much about birds, but living out here has made me curious. We see blue jays, northern cardinals, mockingbirds, eastern bluebirds and sparrows a lot and I'm somewhat familiar with their calls, but this app found painted buntings, tufted titmice (titmouses?) and carolina chickadees. I think I'm going to really enjoy using this. Maybe it will get me outside and walking more!

Life is Quiet
Not a lot going on right now, getting out in the mornings while it's relatively cool-as in mid to upper 80's instead of 100's)-...

That's how I always feel on September 1st. Maybe it comes from living most of my life in places where summers could be pretty brutal. (...
