Whew!

We had a wonderful week last week! We spent last weekend at our daugher in law Caitie's parents house having a late Christmas. Since our newest grandson was born on Christmas Eve, some of the celebrations got put on hold, so we had "Lolly Claus" .  (Lolly is what her grandkids call Caitie's mom.) We had a great time and they are wonderful hosts. The best part was, we brought big brother home with us for the week. We played, went to the park, played with cousins and had an all around good time. We also watched lots of Thomas and his friends and Veggie Tales. (I now have all the songs from both stuck in my head.) He was just as good as he could be-until Mom, Dad and baby brother came to take him home. Seems like there's always a major melt down then! He soon got over it, though.

The boys are 4 months apart in age-both 2 years old and different as night and day. They got along beautifully and shared toys. We were impressed!

Yesterday after they left, we got in our recliners and didn't move! Keeping up with a 2 year old every day isn't as easy as it was 30 years ago!

It was a great week, but now it's time to get back to "normal". Seems like we have been going at a run since Christmas and my house is in dire need of some deep cleaning!

Bleh

It's cold, it's dark, it's wet and it looks like January will be 6 weeks long. It's the same song every year, but it always seems to catch me off-guard. So, I'm indulging in some comfort food tonight in the form of chicken and dumplings. I may even do some baking in the next few days because come the weekend, we'll be off to visit family and kiss sweet grandbaby cheeks-a sure fire cure for the blahs!

Safe Home

We had a wonderful New Year's with our son's family. Baby Henry's big brother Calvin and his other Grandma were there, so we got to love on him some too and visit with her. He opened his and the baby's Christmas presents from us and we had a good time.

A pretty bad ice storm hit the night we got there-quite a bit of damage done to trees and power lines. We braved the roads two days later and headed home. It was a little scary for a while-trucks and cars off the road and rolled over. We made it safely home. We were warmer here and had rain instead of ice.

So now, it's time to take down the decorations, make plans and get going on the New Year. I have some things I'd like to accomplish this year, but no resolutions or choosing a word for the year for me. I know what I want to do and I'll just go about doing it the best I can. If something doesn't get done or doesn't happen, it's still going to be a good year. I learned a long time ago that making hard and fast New Year's resolutions for myself seemed to set me up for a lot anxiety and disappointment. I'm a lot easier on myself these days and take life a day at a time-that seems to work well for me. Wishing you all the best in 2015!

Last Day of the Year

Spending New Year's Eve with this young man:

We're planning to have our Christmas with them on Friday if the weather will allow big brother Calvin and his other Grandma to drive in.

Enjoy ringing in the New Year-be safe if your weather is like ours-a 1/4 to 1/2 of solid ice covering everything!

It was a lovely day...

I hope everyone had a good Christmas. We spent Christmas day at our daughter's home. Our three oldest grands were in the midst of wrapping paper and boxes when we got there, and were having a great time! The girls were having fun with all of the new things, and our two year old grandson had opened his gifts and then gone back to his old toys! He'll probably get the idea better next year.

Our son-in-law bought an oil-less turkey fryer and he and my husband cooked the turkey this year. We were skeptical, but it was the absolute best turkey we've ever eaten! So moist and with lovely crispy skin. My daughter and I agreed that cooking Christmas dinner was so much easier without having to oven roast the turkey. We've decided to pass the holiday turkey cooking torch to my son-in-law!

We'll be heading out next week to see our newest grandbaby-they are home now, and big brother has had a chance to meet and hold his new sibling. Sweet times!

October!
