Just a Couple of Kids

42 years ago, two teenagers got married and took off on an adventure. There were good times, bad times, happy and sad times, even some hilarious times. (Lots of those!)  Two kids, 5 grandkids, 9 chickens and 2 cows later, life and love are better than they could have possibly imagined.

Happy Anniversary to the love of my life, Lonnie.

Father's Day

Many good memories of my sweet Dad today and a few tears too. Miss him every day.

June??!

Can't believe that the year is almost half gone already. There's not much to write about-just everyday life:  loving on grandkids, keeping house, growing chickens and cows and building an ark. (Not really, but Texas has had a tremendous amount of rain. There's a lot to be said for living on a hill!) Anyway-Happy June!

Chickens

We have become chicken parents-a new adventure for us. I'm a city girl born and bred, so I wasn't too sure about having actual livestock. (We also have two black Angus heifers). I probably would have stayed in the "someday it might be nice to have some animals about the place" stage, until my husband said one morning "let's go get some chicks!" So we did and I'm enjoying them more than I could have imagined!

When we first got them-little fluff balls!
We spend a lot of time watching what we call "Chicken TV", our own personal reality show. They've gotten so used to us that we can walk among them while they are out. If I have on sandals, they even peck my toes! I had no idea they would be so much fun to watch. They love to hang out on the back porch.

Hey Mom! Can we come inside?
The love to spend time out in the yard-this will be especially great when the grasshoppers come out.

They like our cows.
We have 3 Ameraucanas, 3 Barred Rocks, 3 Buff Orpingtons and 1 Rhode Island Red. We know we have at least 2 roosters. They are about 12 weeks old and we're chicken novices, so we may have to wait and see who grows spurs and who lays eggs before we're sure who's who. Any chicken advice is welcome!

100 years

Today would have been my dad's 100th birthday. He always said he wanted to "Make a hundred" but he didn't quite make it, passing away in 2007. He was a kind, generous, loving man and a godly man too. Love and miss him.

Not Much Going On

We're not very exciting here right now, which is just how we like it! We spent the last two days with some dear friends and attended a surprise birthday party. Got home this evening and are battening down the hatches for the storms that are supposed to roll in tomorrow. They are predicting as much as 5 inches of rain and flooding. Good thing we live on a hill! If we don't have to build an ark for ourselves, the cows and the chickens, I'll be back!

October!
