Good Old Days

Spending some time with our littlest grands today.

"We can never know about the days to come, but we think about them anyway....so I'll try and see into your eyes right now, and stay right here 'cause these are the good old days ". 💖

Mothers Day

Our sweet moms. My mother has been in Heaven for almost 26 years now, but this will our first Mother's Day without my mother-in-law, Jean. This time last year, we were celebrating her 95th birthday and Mother's Day which fell on the same day. I'm glad we have those memories and the blessing of knowing that we will see them both again someday.

Jean:

Some Observations...a little silliness for your day.

We, (and by that, I mean my husband) are adding a mudroom and bathroom onto our house, so we've been spending a lot of time in Home Depot and Lowes. I have noticed that on weekdays when we old retired folk are hardware shopping, they play music from the 60's and 70's. On the weekends when the youngsters are trying their hand at home repair, the music is from outer space, whatever passes for music these days, modern. There we were today, on the almost empty plumbing aisle, listening to Cat Stevens sing his version of "Another Saturday Night (and I ain't got nobody)", feeling nostalgic and wishing we hadn't been raised in a non-dancing church. ("A dancing foot cannot be connected to a praying knee" we were told. I kid you not.) I think the other two old guys on the aisle would have enjoyed watching us cut a rug, but alas, we have not a clue how. We did try to waltz at our son's wedding reception, but that's another story. (Suffice it to say we were assured by our hysterically laughing friends that the way we danced would in no way have compromised our salvation.)

I've also noticed some changes in my attitude toward grocery shopping.  I used to love it when a big, new grocery store opened. However, it seems that now, everything we do in life must be an experience, and stores have had to step up their game. I whipped into a new HEB (it's a Texas thing) to grab a couple of ordinary items and discovered that I had somehow walked into Six Flags Over Grocery Shopping. There were entire restaurants, counters where you could buy take home gourmet meals and well, I kind of got lost after that. I mean, I only needed a dozen eggs and a couple of pizzas for the grandkids we were keeping. I finally took a roller coaster (just kidding, but I wouldn't have been surprised) over to the all-singing, all-dancing check out which refused to take my credit card. I did finally make it out to the car. I think I'll stick to Walmart from now on. Yes, it's big, but it's just good old same old Walmart, which I can handle. Except that toilet paper has evidently gone up to a dollar a roll. (What in the World???) But that's another story.

Happy Sibling's Day

My brother and I probably late 1957 or early 1958. Could my bangs possibly have been any shorter?? 😄

October!
